Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) 22573
Wilmslow West and Chorley

With the impending lifting of lockdown restrictions and what seems like every major sporting event taking place at the same time, officers have been giving extra attention to areas around pubs and bars as part of Night Time Economy patrols to ensure that people are kept safe and abide by the law while out enjoying late night drinks. This means that specific attention has been given to areas around Chapel Lane, Water Lane and Grove Street, where the majority of licenced premises in the ward exist.

These patrols extend to other areas typically busy during the warmer weather we have been basking in. The Carrs is one of these locations, with foot patrols through the country park taking place regularly through mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Finally, I have produced some material that will be published on the Wilmslow West and Chorley Police Facebook and Twitter accounts (@WslowWestChoPol) over the coming weeks that advises how to keep dogs safe from thieves. Incidents relating to dog thefts are rarely reported in Wilmslow, despite widespread concern on social media. Despite the fact that not all social media reports can be validated, there is no harm in helping to protect pets – especially if it puts minds at ease. The posts aim to provide simple and useful crime prevention information while aiming to comfort online concerns.

Below is a selection of dog security measures you can take to #ProtectYourPooch:
  • Never leave your dog alone when out and about. This includes in a car or outside a shop. If your dog uses your garden, this should be secured with perimeter fencing and a locking gate
  • Make sure your dog is trained to return when called during a walk. If not, it is safer to keep them on a lead
  • Try using different walking routes so that you do not always walk your dog in the same place at the same time
  • Ensure your dog is microchipped and has a collar with your contact details on it
  • If you post photos of your dog online, do not reveal your address or anything that could be used to find your dog
  • Check the legitimacy of dog walkers, kennels or anyone who handles your dog when you are not around
  • Report suspicious people and vehicles to police using the information provided at www.cheshire.police.uk/contact
  • Further crime prevention advice is available at www.cheshire.police.uk/crimeprevention
