Alert message sent 21/06/2020 09:04:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello resident,
Please see below information of 2 current scams.  Information supplied by Halton Trading Standards.
Amazon Prime scam
Halton Trading Standards wants to make residents aware of an Amazon Prime scam you need to look out for. Scammers have been telephoning consumers (sometimes this is automated, sometimes it’s a person) stating either their Amazon Prime subscription needs renewing or the price has gone up and so further payments are required.
It is likely scammer will be after your bank details and/or personal details and will do this by trying to take these details over the phone, via a website or even getting you to download an app on your mobile phone or computer.
This is a scam, simply hang up the phone.

Coronavirus Testing
Halton Trading Standards has been alerted to doorstep sellers trying to sell Coronavirus testing kits to both businesses and consumers in the area. If you have symptoms of Coronavirus, whatever your age, you can get a Coronavirus test through the NHS free of charge.
You can ask for a test:
For yourself, if you have Coronavirus symptoms now (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)

For someone you live with, if they have Coronavirus symptoms
You can get 1 test for each person with symptoms

Please visit the NHS website for further information.
You need to get the test done in the first 5 days of having symptoms. The test usually involves taking a swab of the inside of you nose and the back of your throat, using a long cotton bud.
If you need medical advice about your symptoms then go to the NHS 111 online coronavirus service

If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of Halton Trading Standards specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.
