Email requests to purchase Gift Vouchers

Alert message sent 06/01/2020 18:23:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Residents are reminded to be on their guard against fraudsters who are sending emails claiming to be from trusted community members , asking recipients to do them a favour .

The sender may say that they are unwell or too busy and ask if you would go to a local supermarket and purchase Gift Vouchers on their behalf . Once they have confirmation that this has been done they may then ask you for the serial numbers on the vouchers and this will enable them to access the monetary value .

Police are aware that some residents have become victims of this scam and remind everyone not to open emails or click on links if you are uncertain .

Never divulge your bank or personal details and should you receive a request to send a gift or money to someone , always check the authenticity of the sender before carrying out their instructions .

If in doubt , think scam .
