Scam calls relating to Microsoft Windows

Alert message sent 30/08/2019 09:01:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Police have received a report from a Ness resident regarding scam telephone calls from persons claiming to be from Microsoft Windows .

The caller claimed that they had evidence that a third party has accessed their computer , therefore enabling them to poach personal information . They then went on to offer to implement a solution which would involve some adjustments to their PC .

Fortunately the resident was suspicious and when they questioned the caller's authenticity , the caller became aggressive and threatened to close down their Microsoft Windows account .
At this point the resident terminated the call .

Sadly , this type of activity is on the increase and police advise to hang up immediately should you receive any calls from persons claiming to be from an internet or communications provider .
Never respond to their instructions or divulge any personal information to them .

If you think you may have been a victim of a scam , please contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.actionfraud.police.uk
