Repairs planned for Hartford Bridge following vehicle damage

21 October 2020

Repairs to Hartford Bridge on the A556, known locally as the Blue Bridge, will begin on Friday 6 November and will involve a contraflow traffic system while these essential works take place. The bridge has suffered from damage caused by a vehicle strike.

The main works will involve the temporary closure of the A556 westbound traffic lane at the Blue Bridge, Hartford, from Friday 6 November until Sunday 29 November.  However, traffic in both directions will be maintained using a contraflow system on the dual carriageway. The speed limit will also be temporarily reduced to 30mph through the contraflow to ensure public and workforce safety.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Karen Shore said: "The closure is required in order to replace the steelwork that was damaged in the incident.  I’d like to thank motorists for their patience while we safeguard this important route."
