Temporary prohibition of traffic

Notice is hereby given pursuant to the provisions of Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 that the Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council intends to make an Order the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit/restrict traffic on the following length of road in Winsford to enable major repair work to the bridge and will be carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Council;.
  • A54 Wharton Road Roundabout - Winsford
  • First lane closure: For the first phase we will close a lane off over the roundabout at the bridge and direct traffic eastwards up the A54 to the roundabout at the railway station and then back down the A54 to the bridge. This phase will take approximately 15 days.
  • Second lane closure: For the next phase we would close off the other lane over the bridge and direct traffic up Road One then down the A5018 to the roundabout. This phase will take approximately 15 days.
Some work will require the road over the Roundabout/South side bridge to be fully closed overnight. The signed diversion route will be A54 to Road One and the A533, A556, A49 then A54. This phase is expected to take two nights. During this phase of the works, there will be no access over the bridge for emergency services.

Nothing in the Order shall prevent driving upon the said lengths of road of any vehicle which is being used for the conveyance of persons goods or merchandise to or from any premises situate on or adjacent to the lengths of road or in connection with agriculture building construction works of repair and the like or use in an emergency of vehicles for fire brigade ambulance or police purposes. A through route will not always be available and any vehicles not requiring access to properties on the length of road should use the alternative routes.

The Order will come into force on 30 July 2018 and will continue in force for a period not exceeding eighteen months or until the works which it is proposed to carry out have been completed whichever is the earlier. It is anticipated that the works will take approximately six weeks to complete.
