Retrain or upskill for free on new adult education courses
3 September 2018A new programme of adult education courses has been released for the new term and for some people the cost of upskilling or retraining will be free of charge.
The Council’s Work Zones across west Cheshire have released a new timetable of training courses to support adults to enter employment or to progress at work.
Adults currently unemployed on out of work benefits are eligible for free provision and from now until 1 August 2019, people earning less than £15,736.50, regardless of the number of hours they work, and who want to learn new skills to move into a better job will also have their course paid for.
Courses start in September and there are a great number to choose from which will help people gain the qualifications to progress into various careers.
Examples of some of the courses include: ‘Administration Skills for the Office’, ‘Food Hygiene Level 2’, ‘Entry Level 3 English’, ‘Word Processing’ and ‘Introduction to Construction’.

Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure, said “People earning less than the specified amount have a fantastic opportunity to upskill without having to pay for it. This is a great chance to change your career, learn new skills or make rewarding changes to your lifestyle.
“There are many courses to choose from and qualifications to choose from. The volunteering qualification is a worthwhile addition to people’s CV. People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge.”
