Council launches independent care brokerage service for the borough

Cheshire West and Chester Council, in partnership with NHS clinical commissioning groups across Cheshire, Wirral and Warrington, has launched an independent care brokerage service to assist residents in finding health and social care support that best suits their needs.

The Arrangement of Care and Support Service, which launched on 1 April, is being led by Cheshire Centre for Independent Living , Age UK Cheshire, and Warrington Disability Partnership, and is supported by almost £335,000 of funding.

The service has been introduced in response to the development of personal budgets and self-directed support and in recognition that residents need more information about care options, as well as support to help them find and make best use of existing services in the local community.

Alistair Jeffs, the Council’s Director of Commissioning People, said: “Cheshire West and Chester Council is committed to supporting residents to remain independent for as long as possible. The new service will provide residents with more choice, control and flexibility so that they can make informed decisions and take a more active role in managing their health.

“The service is open to all residents, not just those in receipt of a Direct Payment or Personal Budget. It is also available to people who are funding their own care and are looking for a simple and straightforward process for purchasing support.”

The Arrangement of Care and Support Service can:
  • provide advice, guidance and information about a range of different services in your area from day services, homecare, residential and nursing care homes, social activities, luncheon clubs and more
  • give information about different types of support available from the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors
  • find service providers who can meet your needs and choices
  • give information about service providers including costs, registration details, star ratings or whether the provider can meet your specific preferences
  • arrange services for you if you have a Personal Health Budget and have had your support plan agreed or provide information about how to purchase services independently
