Cheshire West and Chester Council supports workforce to thrive
12 March 2019Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) joins the list of organisations to take Active Cheshire's Workplace Pledge to become a more active workforce.
Encouraging staff to become more active in the workplace and throughout their day, Cheshire West and Chester Council aim to ensure their own workforce thrive by leading healthy and active lifestyles. Taking the pledge builds on the existing health and wellbeing priorities for council employees, and it is hoped this year, physical activity will be a feature of this important work.
Regular physical activity can reduce the risk of depression by up to 30 per cent, and with stress being the UK's most common cause of long-term absence, Cheshire West and Chester Council's Active Plan will seek to harness the power of physical activity.
Anne Boyd, Active Cheshire CEO, said: "It's great to have Cheshire West and Chester Council signing up to the pledge. Healthier and more active workplaces have been proven to be happier and more productive workforces. We are very excited about this partnership and the prospect of working together to support council employees to help improve their overall health and wellbeing."
Research with adults in full time employment found that highly active individuals on average have lower stress rates compared to those who are less active. In addition, research has shown that even low-intensity aerobic exercise can help improve people's moods by increasing enthusiasm and alertness. Through the Active Workplace Pledge it is anticipated that colleagues will be engaged, supported, and encouraged to integrate more physical activity within and beyond their working days to support their overall health and wellbeing.
